Hysteria, 2011 - ★★★½

A fun romp set in the late 19th Century about the inventor of the (ahem) ‘personal electric massager’. It has a light tone, but also does a surprisingly good job of highlighting the injustices visited on women, the burgeoning feminist movement, and so on. Maggie Gyllenhaal is excellent (and has a very good English accent), and Rupert Everett does ‘upper class louche’ as well as ever.
